Meet Ashley Uhl

Meet Ashley Uhl!  She is an incredibly talented photographer from Lexington, South Carolina!

Hi I am Ashley and the handsome little boy in the photo with me is my sweet little boy Conner. I am a mother, wife, daughter, sister and photographer. I absolutely love chocolate, diet coke, and mexican food! My most guilty pleasure is watching “Days of our Lives” and “The Kardashians” yes what drama! But a girl that does pretty much motherhood and photography 24 hours a day and 7 days a week needs more drama then getting pooed and peed on!

What inspired me to become a newborn photographer?
Well my son was my largest inspiration, I enjoyed capturing him as an infant and from then on I decided I would do the same for other families here in South Carolina.

Studio or Natural Light
I do a little bit of natural light and mostly studio lighting I love to play with light to see the different types of images I can create with lights and shadows.

A little Before and After:

Whats in your bag?
I have a Nikon D700; 50mm 1.4; 105mm; 24-70mm

I have so many photographers that inspire me but the one that always sticks out to me is Jennie Pyfferoen she has such an amazing ability with natural light and those sweet little poses she does definitely threw me into baby fever! I am not self taught we all have mentors or we should have mentors that we can turn to for advice and direction when it comes to this business.

Advice to a new photographer;
Study Study Study newborn safety! This job is a never ending learning process and never go into this world thinking you know it all because none of us do. Always ask other photographers if they are willing to help you with anything that you can improve in, it never hurts to ask! Most importantly don't forget why you love your job. Don't make this something your wake up to and huff and puff at, make it your get away and “zen”.

I sincerely hope you'll take the time to visit her Facebook page, and even say Hi!  She's SO sweet, and it's such a joy to follow her work!  Visit Ashley Uhl Photography

As always, if you'd like more information about being a featured photographer, don't hesitate to message me on my page at Loopsy Daisy

Meet Rebecca Riley

Let me just say I LOVE Rebecca Riley Photography; the person AND the photography!

Rebecca Riley Photography located in Dallas Texas

Tell the world a little bit about yourself, as a person... I am a mom to four boys, including identical twins! I am a huge coffee snob, being from Seattle I miss having a drive thru coffee stand on every corner! I love everything Fall, the weather, leaves falling and Football!!!

What inspired you to become a newborn photographer? Are you self taught?I have always loved taking pictures and when my kids were babies I would set them up for pictures with my point and shoot. When I got my first DSLR I new I wanted to try newborns and once I did I new I was hooked! I actually went to school for photography and communications and plan to continue on for my BFA.

Do you have an example of a before and after, or a composite, or a photo from your first session compared to something recent?

Example from first newborn shoot, and one of her recent.  Both GORGEOUS, I'd say!

Studio or Natural Light?
I use studio lights, I have two strobes that I use. If I go to a clients home for a session and they have a good space for natural then I will skip the strobes.

What's in your bag?In my bag is my Canon 50D, my 50mm 1.4, and my 100mm 2.8

Favorite Pose:

Who inspires you as a photographer? My biggest inspiration is Baby as Art! I admire their work so much.

What is one piece of advice you'd offer a new photographer?
Advice would be to learn all you can about newborn safety, learn how to properly pose the newborns. Ask questions if you don't know, it is better to be safe then sorry!

Please visit Becky's page at Rebecca Riley Photography and tell her you read her interview!
Thank you so much, Becky! <3 Loopsy Daisy

Meet Amanda Thompson

Meet Amanda Thompson!  Amanda is a local-to-me photographer who has captured my attention in many ways!  She is SO kind hearted, generous, sweet, has an inspiring story, and her photo was the VERY first professional photo I recieved of one of my Loopsy Daisy hats in action.  It was amazing, and so is she!
Amanda Thompson
Tell the world a little bit about yourself, as a person...
I'm pretty happy go lucky, laid back and dorky but I have a few OCD/organization quirks. I love people and what they are about. I've been told I have an old tender soul by multiple people, I'm not sure exactly what that means but I'll go with it. My world is my husband of 11 years and our kids ages 9, 6, 4 and one, almost 2 years in Heaven. My faith and relationship with God is a huge part of who I am and the reason I love people and life, even when things don't go how I want. I have been "birth junkie" since before I had my oldest 9 year ago. I went to college to be a teacher.  After having my kids and being a labor support for a bunch of friends and family, I had planned to go back to school to be a labor and delivery nurse. Now I am happy doing what I love to do and I feel settled.
I love to make crafty things, Asian foods, Starbucks and the outdoors (especially the beach). Mostly I just love being around people.

What is your photography business name, and where are you located?
A.R.T. (Amanda R. Thompson) Photography in Gresham/Portland, OR
What inspired you to become a newborn photographer? Are you self taught?
I've always been into photography, I've always been smitten with babies and enthralled with the birth process (something about that first cry and a mama's joy) but it wasn't until I lost my 3 day old daughter nearing 2 years ago that I really realized HOW special and important those first hours, days, weeks and months really are. It became clear that birth and newborns are my heart in photography and that is where I needed to focus my attention.
I am mostly self taught but I have attended a class with the fabulous Amber Scruggs of Little Moon Photography. I am always looking for areas to improve myself, my skills and my business.
Studio or Natural Light?
I love both but I have really come to love the consistency of my studio light more. I do in home portraits and I really never know what the natural lighting conditions are going to be, especially here in Portland area, so it's nice to not have to think about that.
What's in your bag?
Canon 7D, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8, Elinchrom BXRi lights with a 40x40 soft box, a Speedlite 430EX that doesn't get much use and a Lastolite gray card. I'm about to add a 35mm lens too. I love primes!

What is your favorite pose? (photo)
I'm not sure I have a favorite. I guess it depends on the baby, kid or person. I really love to capture what is special, unique, stand out about individuals. I really do love sibling and mommy/daddy shots though.

Who inspires you as a photographer?
It sounds totally cheesy, but my kids. I can't believe how fast they change and grow and I always want to capture moments to the fullest. The things that are special now that you don't realize are until later down the road. A photographer that inspires me is my pal Amanda McGhee of Kimberlin Gray Photography. She rocks!

What is one piece of advice you'd offer a new photographer?
Do your homework and set your business up legally and right from the start and also value your time and worth...if you don't no one else will. Also, look for areas you need to improve and get constructive criticism from someone who is qualified to give it. If you are going to do newborns, study up on safety! Okay, I guess that is more than one but things I wish I would have really taken to heart before the beginning.

Meet Jennie Pyfferoen

Jennie Pyfferoen was one of the first few photographers I found after starting Loopsy Daisy.  I have watched her page for almost a year now.  When I first started frequenting her page, she was nearing the end of her pregnancy with her little boy. The self portrait baby belly shots kept me on the edge of my seat!  She was sooo ready, and I was equally as ready to see the new bundle welcomed into the world!  Well, he's here now, and Jennie's back to work! Congratulations!

With a warm welcome, meet Jennie Pyfferoen...

Jennie Pyfferoen

What is your photography business name, and where are you located?
My business name is Jennie Pyfferoen Photography and I have a natural light
                                          studio in downtown Nashville, TN.

Natural Light Studio

What inspired you to become a newborn photographer? Are you self taught?

I was inspired by Kelley Ryden & Tracy Raver.
What an amazing duo they are. I discovered their art in January of 2010. And in
one heartbeat, I knew what I was meant to do. Am I self taught? I do not believe
in such a thing. We are all inspired by others and need some sort of instruction
to get all of the parts of this business perfected. I have taken a few
workshops, the biggest one being with Keri Meyers. She is fantastic! The FIRST
inspiration I had to pursue photography is kind of a shocker. It was Erin Vey
out of Washington State - a famous dog photographer.

Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I am a self-proclaimed hippy. I wear Toms, cloth diaper, do not use a microwave,
and make my own deodorant. That part of my life is my other passion, nutrition.
My family is paleo and love to eat healthy. I also do crossfit, which is new to
my life! I stay at home with my two sons full time and "work" on the weekends.

What is your favorite pose?

What's in your bag?
In my bag is my Canon Mark II, 50 mm 1.2 L, the 100mm 2.8 L, and 35mm 1.4 L.

...and how exciting is this announcement?!...
As of January, 2013, I am hosting my first workshop. Im very excited to create a
workshop where the attendees will get hands on posing opportunities!

Jennie, thank you so much for sharing.  You capture these newborns with the perfection
they were born with!

What inspired you to become a newborn photographer?  Are you self taught? I have always loved babies and children, especially newborn babies. When I was a little girl, all I played with were baby dolls. All I ever wanted for Christmas was a baby doll, a stroller, or something baby related. After high school I went to college, not realy sure 100% what I wanted in a career. I ended up graduating with a degree in mass comunications because I figured it was a well rounded degree that I could find a good job in. I ended up really unhappy in my first degree based job .. it was miserable. I thought there is no way I can do this, I have to start my own business and do what I love. I knew I loved babies and children,  I also enjoyed taking pictures of my nieces and nephew. I remember thinking one day, I wonder if I tried really hard, if I could make a living as a photographer. At that moment I began putting 100% into it and have not looked back since. I attended a few workshops along the way because I am a true believer that education is highly important, especially when it comes to newborns and newborn saftey. Most recently, I attended a workshop with Keri Meyers Photography and it was the best choice I ever made for my business. I learned to many important lessons during her workshop and had several ah ha moments that took me to the next level in newborn photography.

What's in your bag? Canon 50D camera and 50 mm 1.4 lens

Here is a sample from Erins first Newborn Session and one of her most recent:

What is one piece of advice you'd offer a new photographer? Newborn saftey is very important. If you are a beginning newborn photographer, I recommend taking a newborn photography workshop.
